House of Hope Pennsylvania

PA House of Hope is a 501(c) 3 non-profit interfaith organization based in Pennsylvania dedicated to assisting individuals who have been affected by mass incarceration through addressing their issues to achieve healthy, productive and meaningful lives for them and their families.

We believe that breaking the cycles of addiction, unemployment, crime, and imprisonment benefits everyone – victims, offenders, families, and communities.

We offer this by treating our clients with dignity and respect and by encouraging them to take advantage of the life-changing tools. We strive to fulfill our mission to help these men and women who want to rebuild their lives.

The specific purpose of PA House of Hope is to provide logistical, educational and mentor support services for individuals affected by mass incarceration to help them live more productive and meaningful lives. In order to achieve this purpose, we undertake the following tasks:

Organize and administer spiritual, educational, motivational and recreational programs for re-entered citizens and their families.
Help incarcerated and re-entered citizens become responsible and productive citizens.
Aim to reduce crime by helping offenders and former offenders with the emphasis on education, motivation, self-esteem building and conflict resolution.
Try to prevent recidivism by empowering re-entered citizens.
Establish close working and advisory relationship with other same objective interfaith organizations, support and advocacy groups as well as governmental agencies.
Work closely with referring agencies of city, county, state and federal jails and prisons, parole offices, and other service providers.

The mission

of PA House of Hope, Inc. is to serve individuals and their families who have been affected by mass incarceration.

We believe

by providing logistical, educational and mentor support services we can assist them in living more productive and meaningful lives. For these reasons we are focused on working with communities to supply outlets and resources that promotes higher education and increased levels of self worth.

Through these avenues we believe

that individuals and families who have been affected by mass incarceration may come together to thwart recidivism and youth incarceration. Finally, we will strive to prevent recidivism by empowering re-entered citizens to establish close working and advisory relationships with other same objective interfaith organizations, support and advocacy groups as well as governmental agencies while working closely with referring agencies of city, county, state and federal jails and prisons, parole offices, and other service providers to share resources and reduce areas of overlap and redundancy.

Our Visitation Program

gives transportation services to prisons that are especially not easily accessible. For more than two years we have been providing this service from Philadelphia once a month. This gives people the opportunities to meet and continue to build relationships with their family and loved ones.

Our Holiday Gift Packages program

is done through the prison chaplains collecting filled out request forms from inmates and mailing them back to us. After that, we reach out to the families on the forms and set up a time and day that would be best for us to deliver their holiday package. The main point is to let them know that this is from their loved one who even though may be incarcerated they still are thinking of them and wishing them a happy holiday. This program allows the family and children to still keep in touch during the holidays. This helps to build family relationships at the same time increasing self-esteem for the inmates and their family.

Our Holiday Meat Drive program

Our College Preparation Program

is a very important program. This program will be starting in Allentown, PA and later expanding to Philadelphia as well as other cities in Pennsylvania. House of Hope PA will offer free SAT prep classes for students who have family dealing with incarceration. The program currently is set up to give each student SAT prep for 6 hours a week for 8 weeks making a totaling 48 hours of live instruction. This program will be available in the fall, spring and summer. Plus there will be computer access that will allow for students to study outside of class using Khan Academy online SAT prep and a snack or small meal during a class break. Furthermore, our program will pair each student with a mentor that will be following the nationally acclaimed Character Counts’ The Six Pillars of Character Program. Both services combined create an environment that does not just increase their SAT scores but their emotional intelligence as well. In this program, students will have the environment to increase the sense of self-worth and self-esteem giving them the tools to be positive and productive young adults.

Seminars

for both youth and adults include topics ranging from character building, money management, college prep and other educational topics. These seminars are organized for those in the community to come and participate.
